North End Virtual Clinic tonight (12/3) at 7pm!

Now that I have recovered from my extended ‘turkey coma’ from the Thanksgiving holiday (that’s my excuse and I am sticking with it), I finally remembered to send out a post for the virtual North End clinic that is TONIGHT!

My apologies for the late notice, but, if you have time this evening, please log in to learn about model railroading and share your own hobby activities with like-minded folks.

This evening’s clinic will be presented by Russ Segner on Interesting Rail Served Buildings that you can model.

Here is the Zoom link info for the call. Meeting starts at 7pm and participants will be let in from the lobby starting at about 6:45pm.

North End Virtual Clinic Thursday, Nov 5, 2020

The Seattle North End Clinic will once again meet virtually for November. There will be no in person meeting.

This month’s presentation will be on 3D Printing by George Hinchliffe. We have had the pleasure of seeing samples of George’s teeny tiny works of art for his Japanese N-scale layout during the show-and-tell segments of earlier clinics. We look forward to his sharing some more.

These meetings are for NMRA members and guests. It’s a great way to introduce your friends to the hobby. Also, with our meetings being virtual, you don’t have to drive to North Seattle. A win-win all around.

Below is the information for the Zoom meeting. The lobby will open at 6:45pm and the meeting will start at 7:00pm.

Remote Operating Session at the North Clinic Thursday Night, October 1

Tomorrow night you are welcome to a virtual operating session at the North End Clinic.

Keeping with our tradition of having our October meeting at Burr Stewart’s home, we are thumbing our noses at COVID and using technology at its finest to run trains over Zoom.

That being said, bring your sense of humor and patience as we navigate the Burrlington Northern from our homes. Multiple cameras have been set up all around the layout and participants will be able to run a train remotely from a web browser or a smartphone app.

The meeting will be a bit different than other Zoom sessions in the past. The clinic will start at 7pm with a quick overview of the evening. We will be utilizing the breakout room feature in Zoom for training/set up, so we’d appreciate your arriving on time. The lobby will be open by 6:50pm.

To help us prepare for tomorrow night, please complete this short survey to give us a sense of who will be attending and how you will be accessing the Zoom session.

The Seattle North End Clinic is again hosting a virtual clinic this month. We will not be meeting in person.

This month’s presentation will be Building Wood Structure Kits by HO modeller Greg Price.

One of the advantages of having virtual meetings is that we can have 4th division members who can’t conveniently get to our North Seattle location participate (and present!). We look forward to seeing new faces each month.

North End Clinic Thursday Online

Hi everyone,

The monthly NMRA North End Clinic is this Thursday, June 4.

Once again, we will have a virtual meeting due to the stay at home orders.

Lee Marsh will be presenting a clinic on weathering and will also be providing a preview of his Model Railroader featured layout, which will included in an upcoming virtual layout tour.

Please note that the meeting opens at 7:15pm. The presentation will start at 7:30. This will give us time for announcements and quick Zoom housekeeping rules.

One of the things that I would like to propose to the group is continuing to have virtual clinics throughout the summer. Typically June is our last meeting until September, but, since it seems that summer activities will be a bit different this year, I thought we could continue to meet up. Think about it and come to the clinic with your “yay” or “nay” for summer clinics.

Check your Grab Iron email for the Zoom meeting information.

If time permits, at the end of our clinic, we will have time for some show-and-tell.

Seattle North End NMRA clinic this Thursday! ONLINE!

By Lisa Murray

Hello everyone!
While it technically has only been 62 days since our last in-person clinic, it has seemed more like 62 years. And don’t get me going about how long 2020 has seemed so far this year.

I am pleased to announce that we will have a clinic this Thursday night!!

Burr Stewart will present on How to Set Up Locomotive Braking using DCC on engines with different types of decoders. Click here for a copy of the handout Burr will be using during his presentation. Due to the stay-at-home orders being extended through the end of May, we will be conducting our meeting via Zoom.

The meeting will start at 7:30pm on Thursday, May 7. Check your Grab Iron email for the Zoom link! You can also email me for the information.

In addition to the presentation we will take time to catch up with everyone and see what you have been doing with all of your spare time. Bring things for show and tell!

I hope that as many of you can attend as possible. This will be posted in the Grab Iron as well.

See you on the big screen on Thursday night!

Lisa

Upcoming – Seattle North Clinic – Feb 6 2020

By Lisa Murray

The February 2020 Seattle North clinic is this Thursday, February 6, at 7:00pm.

This month’s program will be a presentation by Eldon Jacobson on his trip to Switzerland.

Also, we will definitely have Show and Tell time for everyone to share any train-related items that you have. Also, if you have anything you would like to swap and/or sell, feel free to put it on our marketplace table.

News & Upcoming clinics:

  • Arduino clinic: For those of you who were at January’s clinic, we watched another video about Arduinos and how you can use them to easily set up automation and lighting on your layout. I am organizing a clinic for either March or April at which we will be able to complete a hands on Arduino project. Look for more information about it in the next few weeks.
  • Water modeling clinic: If you didn’t have a chance to go to the train show at the Pacific Science Center, you will get to see one of the most popular demonstrations of the weekend. Dan Kellogg put together a slick presentation about how to model water. He has agreed to come to our clinic to present. I just need to confirm with him as to what month it will be.

I know that I have been remiss in sending out the links of the videos that we watched in past clinics. My apologies for that. I will be consolidating all of this information this week and sending out another email. Look for it by the end of the week.

The meeting location is at:

United Church
1420 NW 80th Street
Seattle, WA 98117

The building is at the corner of 80th and Mary Ave in the north Ballard area of Seattle. It is one block east of 15th Avenue. There is a parking lot accessible from Mary Ave.
There will be signage around the building to let you know what doors to enter.
