Zoom Layout Tours Saturday March 13 10:00am

Join the 4DPRR for our March 2021 Zoom layout tours on Saturday March 13 at 10:00am. This month will feature Clint Brown and John Wilcox.

Clint Brown’s HO scale Texas and Great Northern Railroad is in a 3 car garage featuring lots of action around fabled Tower 55 in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas.  Clint’s railroad features interchange in a central yard for 4 different railroads.  Clint mixes a good description of the prototype with how he has modeled the area.  Its something completely different than our northwest experience and Clint is glad to share his southern drawl and description of railroading in Texas (from Lacey Washington!)

The second presentation on Saturday March 13 will feature the On30 modelling work of John Wilcox.  His layout in a one car garage is completely sceniced with logging, mining and waterfront scenes typical of the northwest.  His diorama work (separate from the railroad) showing railroad structures and typical back woods locations such as stores, repair garages and other buildings add to the presentation.

4DPNR Zoom Layout Tours

May’s Layout tours on May 8, at 10:00 am PST will be an HO NP home layout presented by Robert Richard, and the HO club layout of the PSMRE in downtown Tacoma.

Bob Richard has focused his layout on the town of Easton, WA in the 1940’s, when heavy articulated steam and the new FT diesels ruled the cascade mountains. He is copying the prototype Northern Pacific track, buildings and operations as closely as possible, and will show us a combination of prototype photos, layout photos, and a video demo of trains in action. Expansion plans are also on his mind.

The PSMRE layout tour will give us a chance to get behind the scenes of this large layout in a working museum in downtown Tacoma, how it has transformed over the years, and how the group organizes themselves and their operations. The Puget Sound Model Railroad Engineers (PSMRE) layout is at the Washington State History Museum.  Built as a museum exhibit that also provides a challenging Operations environment, as it represents the Tacoma area in the 1950’s. Largely focused on the Northern Pacific’s operations, they operate trains from the Great Northern, Milwaukee Road and Union Pacific.

The zoom info for this meeting is listed below, and is also posted in the Grab Iron..

OLY-TOUR Model Train Layout Tour May 16, 2015

Bob Stafford

The 12th annual Olympia Model Railroad Tour, now known as the OLY-TOUR, will be held on Saturday, May 16th. Due to some scheduling conflicts, the tour had to be moved to a later date than originally anticipated.

OLY-TOUR is an annual event featuring tours of layouts in the Olympia, WA area. The number of layouts hasn’t yet been confirmed, but it will include layouts in N, HO, On30, and 1:32n20. Many of the layouts have been featured in national publications.

Additional details and updates will be included in press releases sent to the 4D Yahoo Group and PNR Yahoo Group and to those on our electronic mailing list. To be included on the list, please send an email to Scott Buckley at sbuckley54@comcast.net. Please be sure to include your full name and the city in which you live. An electronic document that includes layout addresses, viewing times, and other details will be available about two weeks prior to the event. You must email Scott if you would like to receive this.

Seattle-North Clinic 2010 Layout Tour

Bobj and Roger organized yet another well-done and enjoyable tour to end the Seattle-North Clinic 2009-2010 season. Two layouts and a prototype railroad were toured by almost thirty people in two large vans.

The Eastside Freight railroad in Woodinville was our first stop, a small working railroad serving customers in the Woodinville area on a former NP (and later BN) line. Al Carter’s layout in Bellevue was our next stop, viewing the next iteration of his excellent Tabooma RR HO (and HO narrow gauge) scale layout, significantly expanded from his previous version. The last stop was at the McCrackin’s house in the Queen Anne neighborhood, a hi-rail layout featuring the Alaska RR.

I welcome other attendees to add their own posts or comments.
