Next Clinic:
The next Seattle-North clinic is this Thursday, March 3. The program will include the continuing series on fallen flags and a report on January’s Pacific Science Center model railroad show along with a discussion of the likely nature of future shows.
Astute readers will recognize that the proposed program is what was scheduled for the last clinic. But, as explained below, that meeting did not playout as planned. So, we will try it again.
Last Clinic::
Last clinic started with a mini-clinic presented by our very own Bob K. The topic was the Casey Jones Excursions run out of Seattle from about 1956 until 1971. These were organized privately, but run with mostly Northern Pacific equipment and facilities. Bob’s father (and Bob, too) were involved with the organizers and there was an abundance of interesting inside information presented. So interesting, in fact, Bob’s mini-clinic just became the whole clinic.
I didn’t grow up around here so I don’t have any memories of the Casey Jones Excursions, but many in the audience did. Some of the things Bob covered were excursions to the Ellensburg rodeo, to Sumas, to Chehalis, and to go play in the snow. He also had a few words to say about various local characters (he and his father excluded, of course) associated with the program.
Overall it was a very entertaining evening and we thank Bob for sharing his experiences with us.
Directions: We meet at the Ronald United Methodist Church, 17839 Aurora Avenue North, Shoreline, WA. That is on the west side of Aurora (State Route 99) between 175th and 185th Streets and more specifically, between the Cadillac dealer on the south and Deseret Industries to the north. Going southbound on Aurora, make a right-hand turn into the church driveway immediately after passing the Deseret location. The parking lot is at the rear of the church. From the lot go up the steps to the main entrance. Once inside, the Fireside room where we meet is on your left.
Meetings are the first Thursday of each month, usually September to May. In June we often do something different, so there is no “regular” meeting. Doors open at 7:00 PM and the program will start at 7:30.
Remember the next regular evening meeting is March 3, 2016. The meeting after that will be April 7. Hope to see you there or at least sometime on down the line.
