Weathered freight cars from Larry Sloan, “Bring and Brag” winner

MMR Gene Swanson opened the clinic and made the announcement that beginning with the September clinic we would start at 7:00 PM. The change was made to ensure that we would be out of the building prior to 10:00 PM before the alarm system would activate. The regional convention at Salmon Arm BC and the 4D spring meet at Tacoma Community College (which had 84 attendees) were discussed.

The clinic was attended by 34 modelers.

Dale Kraus presented Wain Miller (in absentia) with the Master Builder Scenery award.

Jim Sabol announced that Ted Becker received the Golden Grab Iron award.

Bill Sandstrom from Tacoma Trains presented “What’s New at the Hobby Shop” with the following items: Athearn BNSF hopper (HO), Athearn Genesis BN boxcar (HO), Accucraft Milwaukee Road hopper kit (HO), Kato Amtrak set (N), Microtrains Milwaukee Road flatcars (N), and a Woodland Scenics building available in O, HO, and N scale.

We had two entries for the “Bring and Brag” event: Larry Sloan with a set of weathered freight cars, and Skip Van Gilder with 3D printed items, a logging car, service station, and some buildings. The winner was Larry Sloan with his weathered cars.

The clinic for this month was “From Timber to Tidewater” presented by Jim Sabol with an excellent slide show presentation showing Weyerhauser logging operation as the logs progressed from the logging site to the final destination at the water’s edge.

Our next clinic will be on September 8 at 7:00 PM at our usual location in the Pierce County Library Admin. Bldg. at the corner of 112th St. and Waller Road. Hope to see you there and remember our new starting time 7:00 PM.
