Update – Sat, Oct 8:
A big “Thank You!!” to those that helped with dismantling of Tom Enloe’s Pacific Northwestern today. Significant progress was made!
However … we still have a long time to go with the dismantling of the layout.
We are fortunate (thank you Tom!) that an individual with a 40’ trailer has stepped forward to haul away as much as can be salvaged, for potential future use in any number of future layouts! Any and all salvageable segments of track, scenery, bench work, etc. are being loaded into this trailer.
In order to salvage as much of the layout infrastructure as possible we need as many additional helpers as we can tomorrow (Sunday, Oct 9):
- Folks who can show up with demolition and de-construction tools including Saws-alls, power drills, circular saws, skil saws, saber saws, etc. Bring Phillips-head and #1/#2 square drive bits, wire cutters, etc (anything you would use to de-construct a layout).
- A pickup truck or two that can be loaded with layout components and ferried down the driveway to the semi-trailer at the bottom of the driveway.
- Folks to assist the demolition crew, carry components out to waiting pickup trucks, and then assisting with the loading of the components into the semi-trailer.
The more we can salvage, the more will eventually be returned to the local model railroading community. Please, if you can spare a few hours, come on out and help us!
We’ll be starting at 9 AM Sunday morning (mas a menos), and the address is 18824 Mountain View Road NE, Duvall, WA, 98019. Contact either Don Trettel, 425-765-2879 (Mobile/Text), or me (Steve Haas), 206-979-5287 (Mobile/Text), with any questions regarding directions or logistics.
Thanks in advance for all who are willing and able to step up,
Original Post:
The ICC has approved abandonment of both the Pacific Northwestern Railway and the Cherry Valley Timber and Mining Company … effective immediately.
As a result, investors have foreclosed on the railways and have commenced immediate salvage operations in an attempt to recoup as much of their investment as possible!
The investors and their bankers have already slapped liens on locomotives, rolling stock and buildings.
Taking off my Walter Mitty hat:
- An offer for the portion of the Enloe property including the train building has been accepted; closing is Thursday October 13th.
- Carol Enloe, Don Trettel and I had hoped the new owners would allow us additional time past closing to clear out the building. Unfortunately, that is not the case; the new owners need the building immediately to store some of their possessions.
As a result of this, we’re in panic mode to clean out the barn ASAP.
To that end, the following events will take place this Saturday and Sunday (Oct 8th and 9th):
Saturday
The train building will be open from 10 AM until 4 PM for anyone who would like to salvage whatever they can from the layout. This includes:
- Scenic elements – any and all scenery remaining on the layout
- Any wire still on the layout – the PNW was a large layout and has runs of 12 AWG in excess of 70 feet – great DCC bus material!
- Misc bulk wire and electrical components
- Track work – most of the PNW is code 70 hand laid track – if you want it, come and get it!
- Any yard, switching district, etc you choose to salvage; This includes:
- The Underhill double ended staging yard (8 tracks plus run around)
- The Union City East and westbound class yards
- The Union City passenger terminal complex
- Two helices – one double track, one triple
- The Black Diamond Yard
- The East Black Diamond Arrival/Departure Yard
- The Port Union Switching area
- Any and all benchwork, including L-girders, legs, joists, risers, hard board fascia, braces, etc.
- Misc hard board suitable for fascia
- All miscellaneous commercial and home built scenery supplies
- Misc cabinetry, desks, work benches, etc.
- A selection of tools and supplies, ranging from a used table saw to miscellaneous hand tools (Dremels, Skil saw, belt sander, clamps, micro table saw, etc)
- All kinds of misc hardware, glues, paints, and other supplies
Tools are for sale for a nominal price (make an offer – Carol is more interested in clearing out the building than maximizing profit).
Layout stuff is free for the taking, but small donations to Carol’s retirement fund are suggested (my words, not hers).
Sunday
All material still on premises will be cut up and dumpstered. Bring your saws-all, wrecking bars, etc.
Please contact me at Steve.Haas@comcast.net or 206-979-5287 (cell phone, includes texting) if you plan to attend either of both of these sessions (or if you need the address and directions).
On behalf of Carol Enloe,
Steve Haas
