Newcastle Public Library
Social Hour from 6:30 to 7:30

Join us on the 14th for a potential new 4th Division clinic for the area south and east of Lake Washington, serving South Bellevue, Issaquah, Renton, Kent, Tukwila, Burien, Des Moines, and anyone interested from surrounding areas. If you can, arrive at 6:30 or so and we’ll visit and meet new members and guests from this area before the presentation starts at 7:30. Let’s also discuss making this an ongoing 4D clinic, including the best day of the month, potential venues, and a descriptive clinic name.

Program: “The Coal Mines of Newcastle”, by Russ Segner, a look at a short line with many interesting modeling opportunities. Originally narrow gauge, this little railroad hauled millions of tons of coal to Seattle in the 1890’s to the 1920’s.

Plans and photos exist and the proper locomotives and rolling stock are readily available. This line had numerous low trestles and one really big one. It was one of the largest wood rail structures west of the Mississippi. It was over 1200 feet long and 130 feet high. It also connected to the Seattle waterfront with a large coal pier at King Street.

Join us and help start something new. If you would like to help, contact me (Russ Segner) at russseg@gmail.com or 206-200-2211.
