It’s “steamy” again in Snoqualmie – steam train season, that is! Guests can step back in time to experience firsthand what Edwardian era train travel was like in the Pacific Northwest at the Northwest Railway Museum. The steam train will be running every weekend through Labor Day on September 5. Just as those early steam trains did in the 1890s, the steam train rides include a trip to view Snoqualmie Falls – from opposite the usual viewing side. New for 2016 – most steam train excursions include a stop at the Train Shed Exhibit Building to view more of the collection “up close and personal”!

The 78th Snoqualmie Railroad Days festival showcases Snoqualmie’s “Trains, Timber, Traditions” on August 19, 20, and 21, 2016! Join the fun with a ride on a steam train as the Santa Cruz and Portland Cement locomotive 2 pulls the trains during the Railroad Days festival. Railroad Days highlights the uniqueness of Snoqualmie’s past, present & future!

Peggy Barchi, Marketing/Events Manager

With a call of “All aboard!” Northwest Railway Museum visitors can step back in time and experience rail travel as it used to be aboard historic railway cars.

Steamed up and ready to go at the Northwest Railway Museum

Steamed up and ready to go at the Northwest Railway Museum

This year the Northwest Railway Museum is offering more than just a train ride experience to its visitors and railfans. For the first time, nearly all of the weekend train excursions will include a stop to see the incredible train collection in the Train Shed Exhibit building (exceptions are on big event weekends when extra trains and/or cars will be running.) This gives guests the opportunity to learn more about the history of how the “Railway Changed Everything” with a particular look at railroading in the Snoqualmie Valley and the Pacific Northwest. Docent-led premier tours are also offered on the first and third Saturdays of each month which include a tour of the historic Snoqualmie Depot, a longer tour of the Train Shed and a visit to the Conservation and Restoration Center to see firsthand the latest work being done on some of the Museum’s rolling stock!

Opportunity Knocks in Snoqualmie at the NW Railway Museum

Russ Segner, 4D Superintendent

There is a lot going on at the Northwest Railway Museum even though it is the off-season. There is exciting and big work happening and this is an opportunity to get involved. Several of us in the 4th Division are already involved – in particular Ken Liesse and Mike Donnelly.

The Museum is going to start construction on the Railway Education Center this spring. We are restoring the Combination Coach 272 giving it a water tight roof and a new floor section. We are switching to a 2-hour train schedule for the upcoming season and excursions will include stops at the Train Shed for all passengers to wander through.
