Travels to 2016 Selkirk Express Regional Convention

Alex Brikoff

My wife and I traveled to Salmon Arm, BC last month to take in the 2016 Selkirk Express PNR Regional Convention. The drive from Hope, BC to Kamloops and then on to Salmon Arm was a beautiful drive through some beautiful mountain scenery. The convention hotel was on the shore of Shuswap Lake. The view overlooking the lake was spectacular.

But what I found even more spectacular was that the 4th Division was well represented. It seems like everywhere I turned was a familiar face! Overall, I thought the convention was very well put together with a number of clinics that were historical in nature as well as covering a number of modeling topics as well. Although we didn’t go on any of the tours, I heard reports from folks that the tours were excellent. There were some incredibly well built models and great photographs entered in the contests.

Tacoma Northwestern Model Railroad Club Presents April Fun Fest This Weekend

Larry Sloan, Peter Coulton

This weekend, April 2nd and 3rd, the Tacoma Northwestern Model Railroad Club is presenting April Fun Fest, a model train show with multiple layouts as well as vendors selling train-related items, at Pacific Lutheran University in Parkland, Washington, Olson Auditorium. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Boy Scouts of America.
Any Scout in uniform will be admitted for free.

The show has been expanded to reach multiple hobbies. Attendees can rent time on a 1/32-1/24 scale slot car track. There will be military tech manuals, rockets, radio-controlled cars, vintage slot car set as well as trains (of course!). There will be many vendors selling both train and non-train items.

There may still be tables left (the status will be known Friday morning at final setup). If you are interested in renting a table contact Peter Coulton (Show Chairman) at 206-550-4583 or petermcoulton@gmail.com.

Thank You to PSC Volunteers

David Yadock

Jeff Moorman and I, along with the 4th Division, would like to thank all the volunteers that came out on MLK weekend to help with the Pacific Science Center Model Train Show. The public had a great time at the show. There were over 12,000 people that attended the show over the three days. Listed below are all those that helped or were part of the show. I know this is not a complete list and I apologize if your name is not listed. Again, your help
with the show is much appreciated.

Steam Loco Drawing Photo and N Scale Items Left at PSC Train Show

David Yadock

A photo type drawing of a steam locomotive was left at the Pacific Science Center Train Show on Monday. It was found by Barbara in the Ackerley building after everyone was gone. I have it in my possession.

Additionally, someone left a shoe box containing N-scale items after the show on Monday. That box was left in the crew lounge. Jeff Moorman has possession of that “stuff”.

For the photo please e-mail me (David Yadock) at hi61izq@hotmail.com and for the N-scale items please e-mail Jeff Moorman at kb7rr@arrl.net.

Small Layout Needed for Pacific Science Center Train Show

David Yadock

Do you have a small layout that you would like to display at the PSC Train Show? It doesn’t have to be large and can fit on a tabletop. A Timesaver layout or something similar would be greatly appreciated. We have an area in the upper Denny location of the PSC needing model trains to show to the eager young ones (and parents) attending the Train Show. Either a “hands on” layout or a “show and tell” layout is fine. We will have 4th Div volunteers to help with watching or running trains on the layout.

Please contact me at hi61izq@hotmail.com or 425-226-7518.

4D Railroad Video Tapes and Art Prints at BEMRRC Swap Meet

Russ Segner

The surplus railroad VHS tapes and digital video discs from the 4th Division Video Library will be available at Saturday’s BEMRRC Swap Meet for a small (nominal) cost. They will be at the membership table. Many are of specialized rail lines and topics. A list of titles is available here (although some of these are already gone).

NMRA members will receive a discount on the videos.

There will also be railroad art prints for sale, some mounted or framed, from a collection recently donated to the 4th Division. Money raised from sales of these items will go into a fund for special projects.

Pacific Science Center Train Show Volunteers Needed

David Yadock

Volunteers Needed??

You bet! Yes, the Pacific Science Center Show is not very far away. We will be requiring lots of volunteers this year to help during the 3-day event. So, please mark your calendars for January 16-18, 2016 (MLK weekend) and be ready to help out the 4D model railroad community. Please don’t forget that some assistance will be needed on Friday evening January 15th for exhibit set-up. This train show is a great way to promote the hobby to a diverse audience. The Pacific Science Center provides the perfect venue to give non-model railroaders a chance to see trains up close. Let those folks experience the fun in model railroading as well as learn about our hobby.
