Eastside Clinic Layout Benchwork
July 17, 2024Written by Russ Segner
Do post a link to The Seattle Times “Pacific” magazine, June 9, 2024 article, “Industrious Engineering.” It’s about Burien’s Electric Train Shop, a 3-page article with color photos.
My immediate response was to suggest that writers and photographers of the Seattle Times visit some world-class layouts in the Puget Sound area. What if another ten or fifteen other modelers submit samples or suggest such visibility for the hobby?
I read an article years and years ago, It said that the time to plan on moving your layout after you sell your house, is before you design the layout, before you build the benchwork, before you do any construction.
I’ve visited some club layouts that were built following NMRA module standards. And EVERYBODY knows clubs never lose their space, never have to move their layouts. Ha ha ha ha ha.
When my local clinic had a benchwork topic that month, I read the article to them. They all looked at me like I had 2 heads or something. Obviously I didn’t know what I’m talking about.
But, everybody who I’ve ever talked to who had to move, who had to sell their house, who had to re-locate, all tell me they wish they’d read ( and followed ) that article before they built their layout.
