Rocky Mountain Express propels audiences on an exhilarating journey of a lifetime deep into theRockies along steep cliff edges, spiraling tunnels and through some of the most beautiful and rugged landscapes on Earth, while revealing the heroic human drama and epic engineering involved in shaping a nearly impossible transcontinental railway link.
It’s a great holiday film for the whole family and a perfect addition to the 39th Annual Model Railroad Show! Offer valid for tickets purchased at PSC with the code “GAP-I$2NRS”. Valid through January 21, 2013.
Note : this is not the “Royal Hudson” that used to run on the BCR from North Van to Whistler. It’s an earlier engine, but just with the same wheel arrangement. This one is still owned by Canadian Pacific. The blurb makes it sound like it’s based in Calgary.
I’ve ridden this line through the mountains, when they still had VIA service. The scenery can’t be beat. The blurb makes it sound like this is kind of a Ken Burns style movie, with contemporary “live action” interspersed with historical still photographs. The film is 47 minutes long, it makes it sound like it was made to fit into a 1 hour TV slot, with time out for the usual fund raising beg-a-thon.
I’m not a big IMAX fan, wide screen is dandy but the sound system leaves a lot to be desired. I think I get better sound from a tinny cell phone in a crowded room full of people. But, I’ll probably buy the DVD instead, wide screen at home is good, too, plus it comes with 5.1 surround sound.
