On Saturday, October 1st from 1 to 5 PM is a wonderful opportunity to visit four fine layouts located about half an hour apart in Fife, Auburn, Kent, and Bellevue along the I-405 corridor and Kent / Auburn / Puyallup valley area. Take advantage of this chance to meet some great model railroaders and see how they have designed, built, and operate their layouts.

Kevin’s HO scale Washington Northern is a freelanced railroad set in the Olympic Peninsula of Washington state in 1995. It is controlled by a NCE DCC system and uses car cards and waybills for operations. The scenery is 95% complete. The layout has been featured in Model Railroad Hobbyist magazine, Trackside Model Railroading and Kalmbach’s Great Model Railroads 2015. It is in a 10.5′ x 12′ upstairs room.

Mike’s Rainier Great Western railroad is an HO scale modern layout that follows track abandoned by the Milwaukee in 1972 from Black River Junction in Renton to Black Diamond and Franklin. The layout is in a 20 x 30 stand-alone building and has 3200 lineal feet of track. The DCC operating system is Lenz.

Bill’s layout is based on the Santa Fe 3rd District of the Los Angeles Division in the early 1950s using both steam and diesel. It uses an MRC DCC system for control and also has three single track mainlines signaled. The layout is complete in a 24’ by 28’ building next to his garage. Bill’s layout has been featured in Trackside Model Railroading and is well known in the Santa Fe railroad historical society and related groups. Russ’ Coal Creek Lumber Company is a free-lance Sn3 layout set in the 1930’s. The layout is above a three car garage, approximately 16 feet x 19 feet. It is point-to-point around the walls. Scenery is complete and the controls are Lenz DCC.
